A deadly train derailment in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident expected to reignite critical opposition regarding the pace and management of the country's key public works projects.
The accident took place on the trans-isthmus railway, a rail link built to join the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean across the narrowest part of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was created to offer an competing rail corridor to the Panama Canal, intended to promote economic development in the area.
“We shall thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident,” stated the head of state.
The official confirmed that, of the some 250 individuals on board, another 98 were wounded, with five of those in critical condition. The official added plans to visit Oaxaca to confer with those impacted.

In reply, the national leader maintained that the train had been functioning in total accordance with all security protocols. Promises were given that the government would remain "responsible" in both the development and management of these national undertakings.
